Jan 9, The Colony Cafe Woodstock, NY. A more than exciting evening with Mr. Duff Allen ( seen below) and others. The readings and performance will be reviewed by Aquarius our on location critic at large later this week, but for now, our reviewer was using words such as ' stirring, rousing, feverish, electrifying and powerfully dramatic' when I saw him in the office after the evenings events. A full review will be forthcoming.

A dimly lit stage, enter a solitary figure in character, placing props on a small desk in the style of the great Samuel Beckett but unlike the great Beckett , Mr. Allen starts his presentation as an act of G-d, a cyclone, no...a typhoon, a vortex, dust devil, a swirl, mayhem, a hurley-burley....he is meteoric, a tour-de-force and a three- ring-circus all rolled into one. The evening started with an open mike featuring local poets and presenters all of whom read from their recent works, the young lady calling herself Carrie was a standout due to her delicate incantation and pure lyric expressiveness which was rhapsodic and deeply felt. Getting back to Mr. Allen, he gets into character both physically and vocally, he urges himself on with his own energy and enthusiasm...now you see him, now you don't. Each time you think you have caught up with him he eludes you by turning another corner but waits for you to catch up. Mr Allen is an experience, yes THE DUFF ALLEN EXPERIENCE. While all this is going on I am watching the audience and all those present are caught up in this magnum - opus. Mr. Allen reads from his own work which is original, focused, hilarious and mind-bending. Mr. Allen is a poet/writer who is intelligent and probably unlike most pretenders understands the language from the bottom up. I'll bet he could explain the subjunctive mood, the imperative mood, the present progressive or the conditional perfect progressive........this is one smart dude. I will continue to follow the career of Duff Allen and post all his future appearances.
