Like
the great fighter Kid Gavilan, Bob Lipgar's show at Oriole 9 in Woodstock delivers the knockout blow in his exhibit
of 7 large format images. I use the comparison to the great fighter because like Gavilan Lipgars styles change and in each
incarnation he surprises and comes out a winner. Like the great American painter Edward Hopper, Bob Lipgar is drawn to the
vernacular in these offerings, he is a master of the glance, finding things which appear to be unremarkable and showing
them as poetic everyday glimpses into the quality of image and light. These are not skillful art inventions but
the work of an artistic scavenger of life in the real world. To Lipgar, there seems to be no poor subject that cannot be elevated
and recuperated into a smashing rendition of what exists right under our noses. The exhibit makes some of the pretentiousness
