DIEGO RIVERA / THE COMPLETE MURALS
Lozano and Rivera  Published by TASCHEN.
A masterpiece of publishing...spectacular, sumptuous and magnificent. This is the most impressive art book we have ever seen. This volume is about 17x11 and almost 3 inches thick. The book opens with a full page self-portrait of Rivera which startles you with its intensity. Rivera's work on the walls of public and private institutions appear on the almost 700 pages of this unique offering. War and peace, medicine, industry, politics and work are presented in these frescoe-murals. The Detroit Institute of Art the Rockefeller Center murals, U.C. Berkeley, they are all here. The sketches, diagrams, explanations and text explain the work, life and genius of Rivera.
It was pleasure to see a book which has provided so much pleasure and fascination.

Lush Life ...Richard Price / Farrar, Straus and Giroux.. Once again Price, the greatest writer of dialogue living or dead has created a masterwork. Price is an American Balzac but funnier. The speakers have been plucked right off the streets in front of Katz's on Houston. This is a love letter to the old neighborhood. Anyone who has read Price knows the drill, open the first page and it's soon 5 AM and you have gotten no sleep and as Price himself says..' I have confidence in my own bullshit, you know..' Yes we do know Richard and thanks for the bullshit. There should be a law that Price must produce one book a year ' OR ELSE ' Richard Price, a master of American urban crime fiction.

TOMPKINS SQUARE PARK / Q . SAKAMAKI  by Powerhouse Books.

Tompkins Square Park/ photos by Q. Sakamaki, text by Bill Weinberg and published by the great publisher powerHouse Books.
At once upon opening this fabulous volume the atmospherics of the area, the grittiness and neighborhood confrontation are palpable. Mr Sakamaki and Mr. Weinberg, both resident of this East Village enclave were there during this period of the late 80's and mid 90's where confrontation between locals and police over gentrification and ideological differences took place almost on a daily basis. The book is letter and picture perfect. Both Mr. Sakamaki and Mr. Weinberg have the credentials necessary to have created this extraordinary book reflecting a New York neighborhood in the midst turbulent times. Many many years later this same park has undergone a facelift and the community has changed as gentrification and out of town 'interlopers' have settled in....goodbye to the bad old times and congrats to Powerhouse/Sakamaki and Weinberg.
